With a full story’s worth of characters running loose, I figured I would give an organized role call!
Isabella Torres: she has a big heart, but a big ego to match. Her misguided understanding of her father’s legacy leads her to be hyper-independent, focused on the superficiality of her hero identity, as well as resistant to correction or sound advice, even from experienced heroes. It is not until things all go to pot that she finally realizes the difference between the suit and the wearer, but fortunately once the right ideals are adopted, that stubbornness becomes stability.
Tobie Moore: he has the best intentions adopting a harmless super-villain identity while keeping the city purged of real villains in order to protect Isabella. He has a relentless, kind-hearted nature that leads to him shielding Isabella, rather than correcting her until he is finally forced to admit that his interference denied her a necessary growth. However, he is not a slave to her temper and holds her accountable when her actions continue to get in her own way and potentially harm others, stimulating her character growth.
Chase/Edifice: Chase, hero name, Edifice, is Rise’s sidekick and most importantly a good friend. He might as well be a brother to Rise and raises Isabella following her father’s death. He respects Isabella’s privacy and gives her space to grow, failing to realize she was losing her way. The company he works for is Mr. Smit’s first victim, so he assigns her to catch the villain and restore her confidence.
Wyatt/Aegis: Wyatt, villain name, Aegis, is Dr. Moore’s sidekick and raises Toby after his father’s death. He has a cheerful rivalry with Chase and keeps close contact with him after Dr. Moore’s death. He raises Tobie with space to explore his own career dreams (that aren’t villainy) but also supports Tobie’s well-intentioned decision to be a “villain” for Isabella. He keeps the lair running and babysits Tobie’s villain-tracking database.
Mr. Smit: Isabella’s real villain with a twist. He is the embodiment of the dark reality Tobie was trying to protect Isabella from. His goals go far beyond identity theft and fraud.
Louis and Milo: Rise’s twin underworld informants that have worked on the up-and-up since Rise’s death. Being giant Rise fanboys, Isabella will have to prove herself to them to convince them to help her.
Zero-Day: Rise’s greatest villain who has reformed -mostly- and become a bit of a family man. His interest in stopping a villain and throwing himself back into the world of heroes and villains after building a whole new life is about zero. However, the good press of helping the up-and-coming Rise junior is not unappealing.
These are all the crucial characters to the story! I wrote Isabella as a character who demonstrates what happens when you shut out people who try to correct you because you dislike what they have to say. Tobie is a character who demonstrates what happens when you enable someone’s dangerous and self-destructive beliefs to avoid hurting them. Most importantly, the dynamic is *humans make mistakes and they can change for the better*, not *abuse and toxicity is okay as long as an excuse is given*. As you’ll come to see, one of my most valued goals as a writer is healthy relationship dynamics and healing.
Thanks for reading!
